POETRY CORNER BY BRIAN MEAR

Picture
I know a girl so small
she's only seen at night
her face is deathly pale
It's never seen the light
In and out of shadows
she searches all around
within depths of consciousness
there's nothing to be found
To the sound of tiny bells
she's looking high and low
I wonder where she comes from
and where's she's meant to go?
For she has lost her life
and nothings as it seems
trapped in all eternity
my lost Angel of dreams

Picture
You were born
self isolated for eternity
yet there has been no distance
between yourself,
between those that love you
Those, that mark your presence
with music loud and beautiful
Your cord of love
remains uncut
continuous it circumvents the earth
It pulsates to the beat of of
five thousand hearts
and in this time of darkness
uncertainty and isolation
your handprint blazes
In vibrant colour
unifying
a reminder that love
transcends even death
We hold the faith

Picture
The lion's mouth
My fingers are missing
they lie in the lion's mouth
a reminder that ive
risked all at times
and sometimes lost
I've held my head high
far beyond the parapet of reason
lost fragments of mind and memory
all faith of " loving" deities
my soul's been burnt
singed on bitter truths
scars upon open wounds
blister and weep
then once or twice
against horrific odds
when expectation is stacked
as high as the heavens
the Gamble
falling dice land perfectly
and I rage
triumphant
exalted
the banners of probability
torn to tattered rags
fluttering uselessly
in the tempest of my laughter

Picture
REACHING OUT
She has a reach
that transcends nations
she has gripped the attention
of thousands
her touch
in all our hearts
Is magnifold
her light radiates
In the darkest of recesses
yet she has never
gripped my hand
so I could kiss
her tiny fingers.

Milestones

Run the marathon
wear her hand
take her image

across the land

pound the beat
eat the miles
wearing Molly
wearing Smiles

hold her close
by your heart
stretch your muscles
at the start

do the distance
cross the line
Working hard
defeating time

she had no voice
no time or place
no passing markers
no life to race

so take her with you
year by year
let's mark the milestones
of Molly Mear

For Ian Coult friend, family.

Picture
Black Angel

She returns from ancient realms
to feast on my legion of fears
In the dark small hours
I awaken to the beat of her wings
On the edges of my mind
Clawing at my pain
Devouring terror
She strangles my throat
In her black shroud of loneliness

November 2018

Picture
Silent Sentinel's
against a gun metal sky
they stand in orderly ranks
monuments of lives
long lived in ages past
they watch with reverence
the passage of eons
although names
have worn
beyond decipherable touch
and stones have fractured
Casualties in
Skirmishes
with hoar frost
In full retreat against
battalions of hail
and yet
Memory lives on
anchored by grief
deep in the sacred loam
love holds fast
the last bastions
of remembrance

BUILD IT

Built on grief
Built on toil
When just sadness
Is your soil

Built on patience
On Rock not sand
Reaching out
Her tiny hand

Built on loss
Built on sorrow
When we had today
But no tomorrow

Built in blindness
Built with sight
Turning darkness
Into light

Built with friendship
Built with love
With help from heavens
High above

Built on METAL
Built on power
Come the day
Come the hour

BURNING BRIDGES

Pour the fuel
stand back, ignite
turn the darkness
Into light
sparks of memory
to heavens soar
no remorse
regret no more
burn with fury
aflame with rage
blaze your bridges
turn the page
ever onwards
into light
with glowing embers
exit night

Picture
WEB
Laced in silk
the morning dew
hangs like
diamonded orbs
she awaits
feeling the throb
of life
the desperate
struggle
and as the
dying throws
are suspended
swaying in the breeze
the sun
glints and shimmers
she feasts
then spins
for the circle
never ceases
that of mortality
and death

Picture
loss
when the light faded
the world shrank
to the reach of your hand
your life diminished
Withered
your memory held
deep within
the chambers of my heart
and as you departed
to hidden realms unknown
I floundered in grief
drowning in sorrow

Picture
TINY FINGERS

She has a reach
That transcends nations
She has gripped the attention
of thousands
She has touched the hearts
of so many
Cast light into the darkest of
recesses
Yet she has never gripped
my hand
So I could feel her warmth
Never touched my face
So I could kiss
her tiny fingers

Picture
AUTUMNAL SUN
Autumnal Sun
Offers rays of life
fruit hangs in hedgerows
bountiful
skeletal forms of wonder
festooned in morning dew
herald the arrival
as father times cloak
trails the forest floor
transformed in colour
cascading in russets
brown and gold
he bows his head
then walks
the long, long road
towards Winter

SEPTEMBER 2019

Picture
DRAGONFLY
She dances on gossamer wings
Portent of souls
Harbinger of change
calling for transformation
Iridescent in summer rays
You dazzle me
So bright your presence
your shimmering form
is so rich, translucent
your perfection a reminder
of nature's beauty
a symbol
of self realization
God's creation
Incarnate

AUGUST 2019

Picture
TICK TOCK

Tick tock
pure nature
In its time of dying
new life takes flight
from its fragile host
hope takes to the wind
launched on the warm
breath of innocence
a child laughs
and all of God's creation
Is captured
in that moment
the world holds its breath
seconds pass
The fragments soar
bathed in the firmament
of wonder

MAY 2019

Picture
Wonderment
to see the world
through the eyes of a child
where brilliant light
dances in wonderment
touch, sense and gaze
In delight
when you can cry out
with the pure joy
of being alive
when you embrace
simplicity
you have found
the shining pot of gold
then dance in
multicoloured light
the rainbows end
so even the Gods
In the very highest of heavens
must surely smile
